Long time, no update

October 29, 2009 by The New Wine

First of all. Sorry for the lack of updates lately. We have fallen into a slumber of drowziness (an effect of the dark norwegian autumn), and we promise that this will not happen again. So here goes. What’s up in camp new wine:

1. rehearsing A LOT. mostly for our upcoming concert in bergen 14th of november. this show will be amazing. guests (both before, in and after our show), covers and the ever loving electronic disco-pop from your dancy pals in the new wine.

2. making new tunes. exciting new working titles as: “tango”, “ekko” and “pirat-sangen”. these will probably make it on upcoming releases. album????

3. having a workshop for six crazy 11-year-olds. we actually recorded a version of “i had to tell you” with a childrens choir.

4. planning our upcoming november tour. watch out for shows in norway, denmark, sweden and uk. we will keep you updated on myspace.

5. releasing our first ever release soon (digital): “bridge” with extremely nice remixes from mighty mouse (UK), frivold & lindbæk (NO) and maybe even more. watch out for material stuff coming also. vinyl???

6. discussing music video ideas with a great up and coming video-directer from bergen, aron eskeland. we love his work and love to work with him. and his team!

so there it is. we are not dead. just very busy. i’ll link you to myspace, because there you’ll find a preview of our upcoming single. enjoy! here is the cover:

Safe and sound in Reykjavik

October 14, 2009 by The New Wine

All right, everyone. We were met by fog and grey skies at Keflavik airport this morning, but still it was a jolly crew that drove to Reykjavik centre to our hotel, where we have already enjoyed the well temperated water in the spa, and of course the inevitable sauna. We have had a walk around town, we ate classic Icelandic food (hamburger) and drank local brew. We also checked out some record and clothes shops. What a nice city. It reminds us a bit of Stavanger back in Norway. Or like our dear pal Simen Herning put it: ´a mix between Haugesund and Lillehammer´.

We are now having an extremely good time in our hotel rooms, drinking beer and fixing our hair (Johan). We are waiting for Herning and his friend to come over, I guess it´s going to get pretty wild. Soon we´ll be heading out to check out the first day of the magnificent Iceland Airwaves!

Take care, everyone. More updates soon.

Flashbacks from Volda, upcoming Wednesday Night Fever in Kristiansand and Wine & Song at a studentclub in Oslo. Oh joy!

September 22, 2009 by The New Wine

Hi there!

I must say. Things are going great for us nowadays. We are a bunch of jolly boys swinging away at our rehearsal space, making up new tunes, laughing and most importantly eating vast amounts of our favorite vegetable: the avocado. I’m not saying that we’re gonna start hooking you all up on recepies, but a serious tip for a great lunch is fresh bread cut into neat pieces served with avocado, some great spiced ham and your favorite cheese (brie!). Well that’s enough about food! There is some critical information you all may need to know.

Volda Flashbacks

What can we say? Volda was probably a new high for The New Wine. When arriving early on an airport with 7 employees, located in the midst of beautiful mountains and fjords, on the stretch from übernorwegian villages Ørsta and Volda, we all knew that this one of those days. One of those beautiful days you just want to last – until oblivion and back again. Adrian was greeted personally by one of our two cabdrivers, and we we’re escorted past the Ivar Aasen museum and to Volda. After a quick (and superb) load-in, we thankfully accepted a generous offer of a quality lunch from Ulf – Rokken Manager. We had some quick laughs, coffee and went straight to the 70s hotel. For the first time in TNW-history, all four of us recieved a room each! A magic moment if I may say. The rest of the midday consisted of a stroll in the Volda City Centre (coffee and danish pastry at the local Baker & treasure hunting at the preowned accessories store) and a fine interview with the local student newspapers.

It was a joyful sight when we once again hooked up with our bro and sistaz from Eskimo. Trust me when I say, these guys have serious potential. They just published a new demo of their song Short Division, so be sure to check that one out. Meanwhile all the catching up and chocolate munching, our friend DJ Skatebård entered Volda. This sure was set to be a night to remember.

All gigs went great and DJ Skatebård played an awesome set filled with italo classics and danceable goodies from his rolling vinylbag of treasures. We had a great afterparty at both Rokken and Martine’s place, but the night reached it’s peak at this homemade pub in the basement of some students serving ice cold beverages until late. All in all – epic shit. Volda 4 ever!

Entering home of Julius (the monkey) and some of our favorite pirates

Tomorrow’s the night. The New Wine arrives for sightseeing tomorrow, and we plan to skip lazily by the pier eating ice-cones in the sun. And after all the precious delight, ourselves will be moved to the lovely Charlie’s Bar for a gig to remember. Trash-Pop, sounthern Norway’s finest booking crew, has been kind enough to invite us to do a show. We will be sure to make mayhem within Charlie’s four walls. Please be there if you are in the area. So that’s 22:00 at Charlie’s Bar!

You find a subway or tram that leads you to the university of Oslo, Blindern, and you find the building addressed Molkte Moes vei 31. Be sure to be there early. 22.00! Why late? Last note:

I would love to update you on what we are doing just now, but let’s keep it special and wait for a fitting moment. Until then: keep it real.

Night of mayhem in Volda

September 17, 2009 by The New Wine
Skatebård

Skatebård

Tomorrow night it’s all going down in the lovely town of Volda, situated about 300 kilometres north of Bergen. Our friends Eskimo, who supported us on our show in Bergen in May, will kick the evening off. After that we will do our best to make all the journalism students dance like crazy. We have som new songs that we are eager to try out. And as if this wasn’t enough, our friend Skatebård will end the night with a hell of a DJ set. Bård is one of our favourites amongst the Bergen DJs and producers. Look out for italo, house and techno! Rumours has it that he will play the wonderful track ‘Bolero’ by Fancy.

We’re all looking forward to see Volda, and visit the Ivar Aasen museum. For all of you who are not familiar with Aasen, check him out. Great guy. Then our next stop will be Oslo on Saturday. But that’s another story.

See you in Volda!

From Finland to Iceland

September 7, 2009 by The New Wine

Man was Finland cool! Already on the train to Oslo, speaking to a great guy from Arizona who had travelled the whole of Scandinavia on his own and who knew almost everything there is to know about the television show ‘Bonanza’, we had a feeling that this was going to be a mighty-fine trip. Although we didn’t have much time to see the town of Tampere, we enjoyed our stay very much. The concert went amazingly greay, despite some microphone cable issues causing Stian to get an electric shock every now and then when singing, and finally resulting in the guitar cable saying goodbye. The other three of us did our best, improvising some piano house while another cable was arranged. It was a success, it may even have made the show better. After the concert we were approached by a lot of people who had enjoyed it, thanks to all of you who came to see us, and to all who bought our t-shirts and bags! See you again some day, maybe in Helsinki next time?

As a bonus to this post, we are extremely happy to tell you all that we have been officially announced for the Iceland Airwaves festival in Reykjavik in October! This was settled in the very last minutes of the booking process, and we can’t express how much we’re looking forward to go to Iceland. You’ll find us swimming in the Blue Lagoon. Amongst others, our friends in Kakkmaddafakka, Casiokids and Kings of Convenience are also going to the festival . You should too, if you can!

First impressions of Finland

September 5, 2009 by The New Wine

Our first impressions of Finland are really good. It’s warm, people are nice and Tampere seems to be a fine city. We were picked up at the airport by our band contact, a friendly woman who is going to drive us to Helsinki at 6 tomorrow morning. Poor girl.

We just exited the wonderful sauna situated on the ground floor at our hotel. After my fifth bucket of water on the oven, Stian and Adrian escaped the room and jumped straight into the swimming pool. Another second and they would have become fried raisins. The venue here is cool, it’s situated just across the street from our hotel. We successfully had our soundcheck and then enjoyed a meal in the restaurant. We are now heading back there after our little spa treatment here at the hotel. There is, just as we were told, a sauna situated at the backstage area as well. We look forward to a great nachspiel in there together with OP:L Bastards and Name The Pet.

Until the next update, take it easy with these photos from our trip so far:
